Direct Support Professional

SARAH Tuxis is a nonprofit agency committed to providing essential, on-going supports for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. No experience required - we will train the right candidates to be successful in the role of Direct Support Professional (DSP).

DSP Job Description:

As a DSP you play a critical role in the day-to-day operations that allow the individual's in our care to thrive, such as:

  • Assist individuals with physical and/or behavioral limitations with day-to-day living activities (cooking, cleaning, personal care, hygiene, recreation + social activities) Supportive care shall be provided in the most respectful, dignified manner.
  • Encourage and facilitate the interests of each individual; enabling social, recreation & leisure activities, and community engagement.
  • Work as a team member to ensure household cleanliness and safety standards are maintained in accordance with DDS regulations and agency expectation.
  • Foster professional and positive relationships with the assigned individual's; as well as their team members, guardians, case workers, and care staff.
  • Observe and monitor individuals for any health or behavioral status changes; report to agency licensed nurse, supervisor, and all appropriate personnel.
  • Complete detailed and timely documentation of support services provided through out shift.
  • Adhere to agency policy & procedures and maintain all agency + state required certifications and annual trainings.
  • Follow all individualized plans and protocols in place
  • Maintain confidentiality of personal information for those receiving services.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and positive demeanor.

You will become certified in CPR/First Aid/AED, DDS Medication Certification, PMT (Physical/Psychological Management), and so much more! 

Requirements:

  • -Ability to utilize online documentation platforms (Therap), skilled typing, comfortable with computers and technology
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and assist with physical transfers of individuals as needed
  • Experience or willingness to learn about autism and developmental disabilities
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Minimum of 21 years of age 
  • Valid CT driver's license

We are currently hiring at multiple locations/group home settings throughout the East Haven, Branford, Guilford, Madison, Clinton, Westbrook, and Old Saybrook areas.
