School Social Worker
Overview
To facilitate ISD self-contained programs and local schools in achieving successful learning outcomes for all students by completing individual assessments and making programmatic and instructional recommendations for students that are at risk or receiving special education services, as well as helping school teams implement a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) framework for behavior, including school-wide, classroom, and individualized supports.
Requirements
- Full approval as a school social worker in Michigan or eligible for temporary approval
- Master’s Degree in Social Work
Responsibilities
- Completes comprehensive evaluations and uses knowledge of best practices to develop recommendations for students referred for special education programs and services.
- Collaborates with district staff, parents, and outside agencies to coordinate services and develop individualized plans to meet students’ educational goals.
- Provides direct individual and group support for at-risk students, assisting students in learning social and emotional skills, as well as other behaviors necessary for school success.
- Assists in the transition of students between ISD self-contained classrooms and local school districts.
- Collaboratively assists in the development of a coaching service delivery plan for each of the schools the coach supports that is aligned to both the school’s and ISD’s PBIS implementation plan
- Participates with and enhances the school leadership teams’ implementation of PBIS
- Provides leadership and assistance with installing the structures and tools necessary to implement PBIS components with fidelity and sustainability through modeling, consultation, and feedback.
- Supports the collection, analysis and use of various PBIS assessments in the problem-solving and action planning process for use in implementing school-wide, targeted and intensive PBIS supports with fidelity.
- Establishes relationships to provide training, coaching, technical assistance, problem-solving, and implementation support to ISD self-contained special education programs and building-level leadership teams, behavior intervention teams, and educators on the use of:
- Tier 1/universal supports in school-wide and classroom settings, including: structuring environments to promote desired behavior, defining and teaching expectations, actively observing behavior, acknowledging appropriate behavior and interacting positively, consistently and fluently correcting misbehavior, and using data in a problem solving model.
- Tier 2/targeted supports to include research- and evidence-based behavior interventions, including data collection, data analysis and decision making in a problem solving model.
- Tier 3/intensive supports, including: in-depth data collection/analysis (functional behavior assessment) to develop, and support the implementation of, behavior intervention plans in a problem solving model.
- Participates on crisis response teams for the ISD and local school districts.
- Completes medicaid billing in a timely manner.
- Regular and predictable in-person attendance is required for his position.
