Penderlea Farms is a leading Live Oak tree farm located in Burgaw, North Carolina. We are dedicated to growing high-quality Live Oaks and providing exceptional service to our customers, including landscapers, developers, municipalities, and environmental restoration firms. We value sustainability, community engagement, and strong customer relationships.

Overview:

Penderlea Farms is seeking a proactive, results-driven Inside/Outside Sales Manager to spearhead sales growth, community engagement, and marketing initiatives for our thriving Live Oak tree farm. This dynamic role is ideal for someone who thrives in both strategic planning and hands-on relationship building.

As a Sales Manager, you will work closely with the Operations Manager to ensure alignment between sales strategies, farm production, and logistics. Your primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to expanding our customer base, nurturing relationships with landscaping firms, municipalities, developers, and advocacy organizations, and enhancing the visibility of Penderlea Farms across the region. You will also be directly involved in working with non-profits that are fostering the importance of farming, trees and natural landscapes. 

We’re seeking a motivated self-starter who can effectively balance their time between generating leads, conducting in-person meetings, engaging in community outreach, and handling essential administrative responsibilities. The ideal candidate is highly organized, outgoing, and driven by results. A genuine passion for horticulture, land conservation, or sustainable development is a strong plus and aligns with our mission to grow and supply healthy, native Live Oak trees for long-term environmental impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels to ensure optimal stock availability.
  • Develop and implement inventory control procedures and best practices.
  • Minimize excess inventory and reduce carrying costs.
  • Identify and qualify new business opportunities through outreach, networking, and lead generation.
  • Develop and execute a sales strategy that targets landscaping firms, municipalities, developers, and other wholesale buyers.
  • Conduct on-site visits with prospective and existing clients to understand their needs and recommend suitable tree products.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager to ensure product availability aligns with sales commitments and seasonal timelines.
  • Manage and grow a customer relationship management (CRM) database of leads, prospects, and customer accounts.
  • Lead community outreach and represent Penderlea Farms at local events, trade shows, and industry gatherings.
  • Generate sales forecasts, performance reports, and market insights for ownership review.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for strategic partnerships and long-term contracts.
  • Learn & Maintain a deep understanding of tree species, care practices, and regional planting requirements.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in both sales and marketing, preferably within the horticulture, landscaping, or agriculture industry.
  • Strong understanding of tree species, particularly live oaks, or a willingness to learn.
  • Excellent cross-platform communication skills, with the ability to balance customer relationships and internal team coordination.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills, capable of balancing multiple responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the nursery or tree farming industry.
  • Familiarity with native tree species and local market demand.
  • Driver’s license is a MUST
  • Experience with Google Suite, and spreadsheet tools.
