JOB TITLE: Engineering Intern
JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Engineering Tech Support Supervisor, performs field and office duties pertaining to the Utility infrastructure.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists with research on engineering-related studies. Assists with design elements of Utility projects.
- Collects corrosion protection program field measurements, related reports, and assists with design of future installations.
- Assists in verifying materials are in compliance with Des Moines Water Works standards.
- Assists with fire flow tests.
- Prepares written documentation of construction activities for record and contract administrative purposes.
- Gather, input, and manipulate data in Excel.
- Assists with the review of construction plans to verify they comply with Des Moines Water Works' requirements.
- Assists Engineering staff with construction inspection and verifying construction is in accordance with plans and specifications.
- Performs other duties of similar nature.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Completion of freshman level civil or construction engineering course work.

Licenses/Certifications: Must possess a valid Iowa driver’s license with good driving record.
- This position requires Driver remain insurable under the Company’s coverage.
- Other: Must pass pre-employment drug test and physical.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Frequently performs tasks requiring periods of stooping, standing, bending, twisting, and reaching overhead.
- Walks for extended periods over uneven terrain.
- Occasionally handles up to 50 pounds.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
- Frequent exposure to traffic and construction noise.
- Frequent exposure to adverse weather conditions.
- Occasional exposure to dust.
- Office setting.
