Engineering Intern

JOB TITLE: Engineering Intern

JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Engineering Tech Support Supervisor, performs field and office duties pertaining to the Utility infrastructure.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists with research on engineering-related studies. Assists with design elements of Utility projects.
  • Collects corrosion protection program field measurements, related reports, and assists with design of future installations.
  • Assists in verifying materials are in compliance with Des Moines Water Works standards.
  • Assists with fire flow tests.
  •  Prepares written documentation of construction activities for record and contract administrative purposes.
  • Gather, input, and manipulate data in Excel.
  • Assists with the review of construction plans to verify they comply with Des Moines Water Works' requirements.
  • Assists Engineering staff with construction inspection and verifying construction is in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Performs other duties of similar nature.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education:  Completion of freshman level civil or construction engineering course work.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Must possess a valid Iowa driver’s license with good driving record.
    • This position requires Driver remain insurable under the Company’s coverage.
  • Other: Must pass pre-employment drug test and physical.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Frequently performs tasks requiring periods of stooping, standing, bending, twisting, and reaching overhead.
  • Walks for extended periods over uneven terrain.
  •  Occasionally handles up to 50 pounds.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Frequent exposure to traffic and construction noise.
  • Frequent exposure to adverse weather conditions.
  • Occasional exposure to dust.
  • Office setting.
