IT Data Intern

What You'd Actually Work On

You'll contribute to real projects and walk away with work that shipped.

  • Python data analysis on real operational data — manufacturing throughput, cost, customer, or sales data. Not Kaggle
  • Contribute SQL queries and DAX measures to existing Power BI dashboards used by executives (CFO, VP Sales, VP Operations)
  • Microsoft Fabric exposure — data warehouse, semantic models, pipelines, workspace governance. You probably haven't seen this stack in school yet
  • One AI experimentation project with oversight — pick one depending on fit: "can Claude summarize vendor contracts and extract key terms?", "can an agent pull purchase-order status and alert the buyer?", "can we auto-classify customer artwork intake emails?"
  • Summer capstone — a small research/analysis deliverable presented to IT leadership at summer's end
  • Cross-team rotation — 1–2 weeks with the Infrastructure team to see how plant-floor systems run. You'll be a better data engineer for having seen it

What You'll Learn

  • What enterprise data work actually looks like (hint: messier than Kaggle)
  • The modern Microsoft data & AI stack — SQL Server, Fabric, Power BI, Copilot, Azure OpenAI
  • How to build an analysis that a CFO or VP of Operations will actually *use* — not just a notebook for a grade
  • Prompt engineering and agent design patterns for business process automation
  • How data flows from plant-floor sensors → data warehouse → executive dashboards → AI-assisted workflows

What We're Looking For

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Statistics, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Comfortable with Python — pandas, NumPy; scikit-learn a plus
  • SQL basics (SELECT, JOIN, GROUP BY — we'll teach you the rest)
  • Curiosity about *business* problems, not just technical ones
  • Clear writer — you'll be writing analysis summaries, not just code
  • Able to be onsite at Pico Rivera, CA for the summer window
