Junior Communications Specialist - Events

Ripple Effect has an opening for a Junior Communications Specialist with great attention-to-detail, to join our Communications & Outreach team at Ripple Effect's Headquarters. The Junior Communications Specialist will be responsible for various duties supporting several projects, with a focus on event planning and communications.

Position Overview

  • Location: Rockville, MD – Ripple Effect Headquarters
  • Position Classification: Full-Time, Regular

Ripple Effect works with federal, private, and non-profit clients to support some of the most crucial policies and programs that shape our nation. We provide professional consulting services in the areas of: Communications & OutreachProgram Management & Policy; and Research & Evaluation. Job Description

Ripple Effect is accepting applications for a Junior Communications Specialist who is a well-rounded, creative, highly-organized, efficient, personable, and knowledgeable individual. The ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, is required. The ideal candidate must possess a good work ethic to meet the demands of a fast-paced work environment. The Junior Communications Specialist will ensure brand discipline with all communication materials to ensure that clients and/or projects are portrayed on consistently and compellingly in media outlets.
Specific duties may include:
  • Assist with stakeholder event planning and workgroup development
  • Conduct research and site visits, to find resources to help staff make decisions about events
  • Coordinate on-site arrangements for all meetings and events
  • Serve as liaison with vendors on event-related matters
  • Assist with managing on-site production and clean up for events as necessary
  • Close out all events as required
  • Propose new ideas to improve the event planning and implementation process
  • Draft content for social media and website updates
  • Write news articles, blogs, emails, and press releases
  • Develop interactive PowerPoint presentations and reports for clients
  • Participate in, collect topics and or materials, and facilitate client meetings and workgroups, as appropriate
  • Support regular project meetings through agenda development and meeting minutes
  • Assist in the development of plain language communication materials
  • Update internal tracking spreadsheets
  • Assist with developing, integrating, and implementing comprehensive marketing, communications, and public relations plans and measurable actions that enhance the organization's vital mission
  • Other duties, as assigned

Requirements

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in field of communications, marketing, or other related field
  • 2 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated strength in oral and written communication skills, including professional emails and presentations
  • Highly organized, efficient, and extremely detail-oriented
  • Ability to prioritize among multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong technological skills, intermediate MS Office abilities, including Outlook, and scheduling skills
  • Ability to work independently and know when to seek assistance
  • Ability to work productively in a web-based environment (SharePoint and/or other) to accomplish tasks independently or in teams

Preferred Skills

  • Conference and Event Planning experience
  • 4 years of relevant experience
  • CGMP or CMP certified
  • Demonstrated experience managing social media communications and campaigns
  • Knowledge of Asana or other Project Management Software
  • Previous experience with Microsoft SharePoint and WordPress
