Program Operations Specialist

ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE
Plant With Purpose, a Christian development organization, reverses deforestation and poverty around the world by transforming the lives of the rural poor. For more than 30 years, Plant With Purpose has been a leader in linking international community development and environmental solutions, working with smallholder farmers in strategic locations where environmental degradation and poverty intersect. Plant With Purpose currently works in Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Mexico, Tanzania, and Thailand, and employs an integrated methodology that combines environmental restoration, economic empowerment, and spiritual renewal. Activities include watershed restoration, reforestation, sustainable agriculture training, savings-and-loan groups, local leadership development, and outreach efforts with the local Christian church.
OUR NEED
Over the last few years, Plant With Purpose has positioned itself for growth. We have a current staff size of 19 dispersed among Southern California, the California Bay Area, Colorado, Texas, and the Great Lakes Region. We are looking for a Program Operations Specialist to provide full support to our international programs team, maintain the data management process, and ensure quality data from field partners. 
YOUR OPPORTUNITY
As the "go to" person for international programs data, you will play an integral role in strengthening the International Programs team. Although working as a part of a team, this position also allows for independent work with responsibilities including:
  • Ensuring data quality from the field
  • Data management
  • GIS mapping
  • Supporting M&E functions to monitor international program effectiveness 
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Management & Communication (60%)
Under the supervision of the M&E Manager:
  • Develop and maintain reliable database systems that meet departmental needs
  • Receive all program field reports (e.g. quarterly program, MIS, financial, technique application), verify for accuracy in collaboration with Regional Partnership Manager, and file carefully in appropriate systems
  • Work with the development department to ensure that Plant With Purpose data is persuasive, accurate, and accessible to the public
  • Check numerical data accuracy used by development department prior to external use including grants
Program Operations Support (20%)
Under the supervision of the M&E Manager and in partnership with the Regional Partnership Manager:
  • Provide general and varied support to the international programs team
  • Ensure fast and accurate communication at all times between mobile US-based program staff and colleagues from all departments
  • Assist completing various work wherever other team members need assistance, whether highly-routined tasks or projects demanding skill, discretion, and problem solving skills, e.g., vision trip logistics, international meeting logistics
  • Proactively look for ways to help program team members
Monitoring & Evaluation (10%)
Under the supervision of the M&E Manager, help to:
  • Develop and maintain M&E systems
  • Design and implement triennial impact evaluations
  • Develop and test innovative M&E initiatives
  • Implement baseline studies
Mapping for Analysis, Planning, & Communication (5%)
Under the supervision of the M&E Manager, help to:
  • Maintain GIS datasets for accuracy and completeness
  • Generate maps
  • Conduct geospatial analysis
  • Improve mapping knowledge among US and field staff through training, workshops, development of training materials and dialogue 
Research & Development (5%)
Under supervision of M&E Manager and in partnership with the Director of International Programs, assist with research & development including:
  • Literature reviews and background research
  • Development and testing of innovative technologies and approaches
  • Data analysis of Plant With Purpose datasets and research results
  • Support improved partner capacity for conducting research
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Infrequent (10%) travel to project sites which at times may be in difficult and physically arduous conditions.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
BA/BS in related field; at least 3 years experience in related field
REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Completes tasks in a timely manner. Follow-up with others diligently, boldly as necessary
  2. Genuine team player: Able to give and take under pressure, supports other team members’ welfare and success. Takes on extra tasks as needed for team success
  3. Thirst for excellence: Questioning mind, willingness to learn, innovate and take risks combined with the discipline to follow-up and document process
  4. Is highly conversant with the systems for managing and moving data from the field into online formats available to other departments such as spreadsheets and GSuite
  5. Attention to detail in dealing with data, administration and communications. Will not leave loose ends
  6. Sincerely interested in the holistic environmental mission of Plant With Purpose and the diverse communities we seek to empower
  7. Competency in the use of mapping software, in particular ESRI ArcGIS
  8. Knowledge of statistical analysis methods and use of statistical platform, such as R
  9. Strong interpersonal and communicative skills
  10. Experience with field research design desirable
  11. Ability to work and learn cross-culturally

Commensurate with experience. Range is available upon request.
