The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is hiring a data management analyst for our Surface and Wastewater Division at our State Office in Boise. This position will be responsible for working with State Office, Regional Office, Technical Services, and IT staff to develop and implement a central, user-friendly, data management system and manage that system to ensure surface water data is centrally stored, backed up, and accessible to internal and external users. 

Example of Duties:

  • Coordinate with State Office and Regional Office staff to identify data management needs and opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide web-based application training to State and Regional Office staff.
  • Assist Surface Water Bureau with data acquisition from external sources.
  • Produce queries and views to assist State and Regional Office staff.
  • Serve as point-of-contact for surface water data questions and answer data and application-related questions from staff in regional offices and external clients.
  • Research, compile, and format data requested in Public Records Requests.
  • Act as quality assurance officer for project plans.
  • Assist Surface Water Bureau staff with data entry and management.
  • Assist with occasional field monitoring.

Minimum Qualifications:

Possession of a bachelor's degree in the physical or biological sciences, political science, business or public administration, engineering, or related natural resources management field OR any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to a typical four (4) year bachelor's degree. For example: Successful completion of sixty (60) semester hours of study, including twenty four (24) semester hours in a subject required for the specific discipline, is equivalent to two (2) years of undergraduate education; and/or experience performing routine duties in completing multiple tasks such as policy research, data collection, interpretation, analysis and preparation of reports and written documents for at least two (2) years can substitute for one (1) year of college.

AND

At least four (4) years' experience managing and implementing, projects or component(s) of programs that are environmental, regulatory, or administrative in nature, where you were required to routinely perform program or project planning; provide technical assistance to staff, special interest groups and the public; and provide policy and/or regulatory interpretation and/or development.

OR

Possession of a master's degree in any of the above fields AND at least two (2) years' professional experience managing and implementing, or overseeing projects or component(s) of programs that are environmental in nature, where you were required to routinely perform program or project planning; provide technical assistance to staff, special interest groups and the public; and provide policy and/or regulatory interpretation and/or development.
 
 
Specialty Minimum Qualifications (required for this position):
  • DEQ 5705 - Data Management: At least (1) year of experience performing data management activities such as database development and/or maintenance, data collection, analysis, research, and tracking, developing tables, queries, forms and reports.

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to sit and work on a computer for 2-4 hours at a time
  • Ability to reach and bend for filing purposes
  • Some periods of heavy reading and typing required
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds when working with file boxes
  • Some travel may be required
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds over rough terrain
  • Ability to work in adverse or inclement weather
  • Ability to work in extreme hot or cold temperatures both outside and inside
  • May be required to travel and stay overnight in remote areas
