Ag Weights & Measures Inspector (Entry Level to Experienced Level)

The Agriculture/Weights and Measures Inspector I will join a team of 8 other experienced and professional inspectors who are committed to regulating and overseeing a variety of areas including organic integrity, farmers' markets, commercial devices (scales, meters, etc.), retail sales techniques (scanners, price lookup systems, etc.), pesticide applications, insect trapping, and state and federal pest quarantines. The position is primarily regulatory with a heavy focus on education and outreach. Successful Inspectors need to effectively transition from providing education to taking an enforcement action (violation, fine, etc.). The ever-changing field work takes place in many different settings including farms, gas stations, retail stores, pesticide storage areas, farmers' markets, taxi cabs, mail terminals, nurseries, and more!

As you can imagine, the above field inspections generate a range of office work including composing investigative reports, compiling data, issuing permits, interpreting laws and regulations, collaborating with other government agencies, and levying fines. The successful candidate will need to have great attention to detail. This job has a nice balance of both office and field work.

There is currently one (1) full-time vacancy in the Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures that will be filled at the Inspector Trainee OR Inspector I OR Inspector II OR Inspector III level. Candidates will be considered for the level(s) for which they apply, assuming minimum qualifications are met.
