Permanency Social Worker

Family Builders is a non-profit, licensed foster care and adoption agency, serving children in the foster care system. Family Builders believes that every child has the right to grow up in a permanent, nurturing family regardless of that child’s age, race, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, or medical, physical or emotional condition. Family Builders educates the community about the needs of waiting children, advocates on their behalf, and places children with permanent, secure families through adoption, and other forms of permanence.

SUMMARY:

We currently have an opening for a Permanency Social Worker. The primary work location is in San Francisco. In this position, the Permanency Social Worker will provide permanency, social work and support for youth in the foster care system. They will conduct family finding and engagement and support for youth throughout the process of finding permanency. In addition, they will facilitate Permanency Team meetings and problem solving barriers to permanency. They will interview and develop relationships with youth and encourage them to take a leadership role in decision making and planning. The social worker will create a written recruitment plan that is specific to the needs of each youth as well as assist youth in identifying adults with whom the youth has connections. They will also co-facilitate support groups for youth, information/support groups for adoptive families and preparation groups for adoptive families.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MSW or related master's degree preferred. Experience with youth in the foster care system; knowledge of and experience with providing permanency services; ability to effectively communicate with other professionals; commitment to finding permanency for older youth.
