Spectrum Scholars ($20k Scholarship, Internship, and more)

Spectrum Scholars awards qualified rising college juniors with financial need $20,000 in scholarships over their junior and senior year. Selected Scholars will participate in a structured, two-year program focusing on professional development and a potential career at Charter. Students will also receive a professional career mentor and opportunity to explore an internship at Charter Communications Inc.


Qualifications to Apply

  • Scholars must be rising Juniors at the time of their application (i.e. Juniors starting in their Fall 2020 term).
  • Scholars must be full-time students attending an accredited college/university or the student’s permanent residence within Charter’s 41-state service footprint; or in the company’s corporate headquarter cities including Washington, DC; Denver, Colorado; or Stamford, Connecticut (see eligible states/territories within our footprint here).
  • If you have any technical difficulties with the footprint website, please visit spectrum.com and input your permanent address and/or school address in the banner section of the home page where it says “enter your address for best offers." Once you click “Shop,” it will tell you if the address is part of the Spectrum service area.
  • Scholars must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Scholars should identify as Asian or Pacific Islander.  Students within these communities who also identify as LGBTQ, students with disabilities or students with military backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Scholars must qualify for need-based scholarships based upon unmet financial need.
  • Scholars must agree to attend all Spectrum Scholars planned events (i.e. virtual calls, office visits, etc.).
  • Scholars must have a strong desire to explore an internship with Charter after completing their junior year (2021).
  • Scholars must have a strong preference to work in the corporate sector.
  • Scholars must not be a child or dependent of a Charter employee.

  • This includes those who identify as East Asian American, Filipino American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander American, South Asian American, and Southeast Asian American.

  • What type of information do you need under “Ethnicity?”
  • Please list a specific ethnic background group, such as Bangladeshi, Cambodian, Chinese, Filipino, Guamanian, Native Hawaiian, Hmong, Indian, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Laotian, Pakistani, Samoan, Singaporean, Sri Lankan, Taiwanese, Thai, Tongan, Vietnamese, etc. If you are of mixed heritage, please list your various backgrounds. Applicants must be able to provide this information.

  • How can the scholarship funding be spent?
  • Scholarships must be used towards education. Funds will be sent directly to the school.

  • Why do I need to be a rising Junior to apply?
  • Applicants must be rising Juniors because their tentative internship will be in 2021 (the summer between their junior and senior year) with a second round of funding for their senior year.

  • Are non-U.S. citizens eligible?
  • As long as students are eligible to work in the U.S., they can apply.

  • What should be included in my academic transcript when I apply?
  • Applicants will be required to upload their college transcript from the Fall of 2019 which should be their latest transcript.

  • Will Spectrum Scholars cover the costs of travel and lodging for the required events that scholars have to attend?
  • Yes.
