Web-App Design Support

The EPA National Student Services Contract has an immediate opening for a full-time contractor position; Web-App Design Support with the Office of Research and Development at the EPA facility in Corvallis, OR.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent Bachelor’s grad to collaborate with EPA’s research team. Research experience includes:

·      Working with other contractors designing and implementing initial tool prototypes;

·      Working with EPA staff to design, implement and test tools;

·      Working with possible users of tool to create use cases and design requirements; and

·      Networking and exploring many career paths at EPA.

Location: This job will be located at EPA’s facility in Corvallis, OR.

Salary: $21.37 per hour.

Travel: Occasional travel may be required.

·      Two or more courses at the undergraduate level in biology;

·      Experience in supporting scientific research in biology and/or chemistry;

·      Experience in performing analytical chemistry measurements in the laboratory; and

·      Experience with spreadsheet preparation, data collection, and data analysis.

The Center for Public Health and Environmental Assessment (CPHEA) provides the science needed to understand the complex interrelationship between people and nature in support of assessments and policy to protect human health and ecological integrity. Within CPHEA, the Pacific Ecology System Division (PESD) is responsible for research to assess the condition of freshwater, terrestrial, and estuarine ecosystems, and how environmental condition affects beneficial uses of those ecosystems.

The Office of Research and Development has a requirement for programming for a user- friendly decision support system. The work described here is designed to provide ORD with that support.

This goal of the research in which this position will be involved is to evaluate community sustainability and to recommend resources which will allow small communities to enhance their sustainability and climate resilience. Small (in range of 50,000 population or less) communities face many issues in terms of the environment and economics, but often have limited staff time and access to data, even when tools are available. Thus, compared to larger cities with greater visibility and more resources which allow them to develop unique sustainability plans, smaller communities would benefit from a readily accessible framework which would allow them to evaluate sustainability with available resources.

·      Be at least 18 years of age and

·      Have earned at least a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a degree in a scientific discipline with demonstrated software development skills, or a closely related field of study from an accredited university or college within the last 24 months and

·      Be a citizen of the United States of America or a Legal Permanent Resident.
