Staff Operations Research Scientist

Instacart seeks Staff Operations Research Scientist in San Francisco, California.

Responsibilities: Responsible for designing and implementing solutions to overcome complex logistics challenges and optimize real-time fulfillment systems to support Instacart’s e-commerce platform. Duties include: utilizing in-depth operations research, statistical analysis, and scalable data models to understand market trends, supply and demand, shopper efficiency, and other real-time metrics in a unique four-sided marketplace; building complex algorithms to optimize and scale machine learning data ingestion and other automated analytical processes; developing advanced mathematical and simulation models to test design sequences; implementing innovative techniques to continuously improve optimization engines and solve ever-evolving logistics problems as the company grows; and other duties as assigned.

Education: Master’s* degree in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, or similar quantitative or logistics discipline (or foreign equivalent).

Requirements: 2 years* of experience in the job offered or related. Other special requirements include: 2 years of experience working with SQL, Python, R, or similar data management languages; 2 years of experience using algorithms and statistical methods to create predictive models; 2 years of experience working with scikit-learn, XGBoost, Keras/Tensorflow, or similar machine learning tools; 2 years of experience applying statistical and machine learning solutions on a scalable platform to real-world applications; and 2 years of experience gathering and analyzing data to provide deep analytical insights and forecasting.

*In lieu of a Master’s degree in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, or similar quantitative or logistics discipline (or foreign equivalent) and 2 years of experience in the job offered or related, employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, or similar quantitative or logistics discipline (or foreign equivalent) and 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or related.
