We are recruiting for an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) specialist to assist in providing design and construction standards and agency support related to ADA curb ramps, crosswalks, and pedestrian and bicycle facilities.

A day in the life:
  • Provide engineering design support for curb ramps, bicycle facilities and sidewalks.
  • Participate in project team meetings and respond to inquiries from ODOT, consultants, local government and the public.
  • Review construction plans for compliance with ADA and bicycle and pedestrian standards.
  • Recommend revisions to contract plans.
  • Develop new and creative designs to accommodate bicycle and pedestrian travel on roadways.
  • Assist in formatting and reviewing policy documents related to ADA and bicycle and pedestrian design.
  • Prepare GIS maps and reports.
  • Maintain a library of available information on ADA and bicycle and pedestrian design.
  • Prepare various reports and spreadsheets for tracking and analysis related to ADA design and inventory.
  • Develop queries for design and program staff use.
  • Use queries to assist in preparing reports for programs, performance measures, planning studies and identifying proposed highway construction projects.
  • Assist in training for ADA and bicycle and pedestrian facilities. 
  • Develop FAQ information and post information on the ADA SharePoint page
  • Assist with the asset inventories of ADA curb ramps, sidewalks, and bicycle facilities.
  • Work is primarily performed in a typical office environment with occasional field work throughout the state.
  • Outdoor work may be necessary in inclement weather and heavy traffic conditions and may include riding a bicycle and testing ADA pedestrian facilities including riding in wheelchairs.

What we need:
A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, surveying, or transportation-related engineering and one year civil engineering or surveying experience.
OR
An associate's degree in engineering technology or surveying from a recognized community college or technical school of engineering and two and one-half years of engineering or surveying experience. One year of this experience must have been working independently or as a senior member of a team or work group.
OR
Four years of para-professional engineering or surveying experience. One year of this experience must have been working independently or as a senior member of a team or work group.
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must possess and maintain a valid driver license and acceptable driving record. Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
