KC Library VISTA Summer Associate

The Kansas City Public Library is an important hub in neighborhoods and in the Kansas City Missouri metro. The Library provides important access to not only books, but also meals and other resources. The Library VISTA Project’s Summer Associate Program will contribute to expanding the reach of services to youth, families, and community partners. VISTA Summer Associates will serve from May 24 – August 1 at various locations of the Kansas City Public Library for 32 hours per week. The living stipend is $513 every two weeks, and VISTA Summer Associates will be eligible for an end-of-service award.  
Below are the locations and departments where there will be VISTA Summer Associates at the Library:  
  • Mobile Services – Extend the reach of the Mobile Device library and material delivery to daycares, schools, and senior living centers throughout Kansas City.  
  • Tech Access (2 positions) - Bridge the digital divide by developing and teaching new classes about various technologies to community partners and Library patrons.  
  • Bluford Youth and Family Engagement – At the Bluford Branch, expand the reach of the Summer Reading Program and assist with the daily meal service, Kids’ Café. 
  • North-East Youth and Family Engagement - At the North-East Branchexpand the reach of the Summer Reading Program and assist with the daily meal service, Kids’ Café. Bilingual applicants preferred.  
  • Plaza Teens (2 positions) - At the Plaza Branch, expand the reach of the Summer Reading Program and plan programs for teens in Kansas City.  
  • Outreach Youth and Family Engagement (3 positions) – Bring the Library to children, teens, and family through outreach at parks, community centers, community events, and more.  
  • Early Learning - At the Central Library, engage with young children (0-8 year olds) and their caring adults at the Library and through outreach events.  
  • Central Youth Services – At the Central Library, expand the reach of the Summer Reading Program and assist with storytimes and other programming.  
  • Southeast Youth and Family Engagement – At the Southeast Branch, expand the reach of the Summer Reading Program, assist with the daily meal service, Kids’ Café, and help plan programming with the Kansas City Digital Media Lab.  
  • Kansas City Digital Media Lab – At the Southeast Branch, assist with production suite and makerspace, help with the daily meal service, Kids’ Café, and facilitate programming, including STEAM activities. 
 
Preferred Qualifications:  
  • High school diploma/GED 
  • Previous experience working/volunteering with children and teens 
  • Technology skills (Office 365, YouTube, video editing) 
  • Excellent communication 
  • Community outreach and engagement  
  • Team work: positive contribution to group
