Norton Professional Books Remote Internship, Summer 2021

Who we are
Founded in 1923, W. W. Norton is the oldest and largest independent and employee-owned publishing house, publishing works of Nobel laureates, master teachers, and Pulitzer Prize winners. For almost a century, Norton has been dedicated to achieving a common goal:  to bring to readers and students enduring fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, as well as high-quality textbooks and digital learning tools.

About the internship
Norton Professional Books (NPB), a department of W. W. Norton & Company, Inc. focusing on mental health and education books, seeks an intern to assist the marketing and editorial staff remotely for a nine-week period.  Our internship program provides participants with an engaging, supportive, and hands-on learning experience in publishing that includes mentorships with experienced Norton employees and networking within the intern class. Your work if you become an NPB intern may include the following:

·        Researching market data
o  As a publisher of books spanning a variety of topics within the mental health and education fields, NPB requires data and up-to-date information on niche markets. The intern will play an important role in helping the team gather information and data from online sources that we can use to inform marketing outreach.
·        Media outreach and list-building
o  The NPB Intern will help update and expand NPB’s media contact lists in order to broaden our outreach to editors, producers, readers, and reviewers for mailing and pitching purposes. There may also be opportunities for the intern to pitch new releases directly to outlets.

·        Development of campaign material
o  An intern with design skills can utilize their talents to create infographics, fliers, press releases, and other promotional graphics for our newest campaigns.

·        Social media marketing support
o  Assisting in social media to create posts and curate copy and graphic designs for our audience.

·        Opportunities to work on editorial assignments
o  Assist with proofreading, manuscript formatting, art maintenance, and provide general assistance to the editorial team as needed.
