Upper School Math Teacher
The Calhoun School, a leading progressive, independent, co-educational day school in Manhattan, seeks a full time Upper School Math Teacher to begin in August 2021.

The Upper School Math Teacher will report to Director of Upper School.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Teaching core Upper School Math to students in grades nine to twelve
- Expertise in, and demonstrated ability to teach all levels of high school mathematics
- Ability to teach Probability and Statistics preferred
- Provision of differentiated instruction, and ability to teach students with varying learning styles.
- Creating a positive learning environment for students and inspiring students to hold themselves to a high standard of academics and character.
- Maintaining anecdotal and assessment records to inform thoughtful, comprehensive narrative reports while assessing students in a rigorous and progressive manner.
- Incorporating technology into the practice to support student learning.
- Providing differentiated and small group instruction based on the learning modalities of students.
- Cultivating a love of Math through interactive, joyful learning.
- Serving as an advisor to a small group of students.
- Documenting attendance, grades and maintaining other pertinent records according to school policies.
COLLABORATION/COMMUNICATION
- Collaborating with colleagues both intra- and cross-departmentally to share best practices and ensure student progress.
- Attending faculty meetings and conferences as needed.
- Maintaining consistent relationships with families, including phone calls, emails and conferences.
- Engaging in the wider life of the Upper School - for example, serving as a faculty advisor to a student club, coaching a sport or chaperoning trips.
- Displaying a strong commitment to, belief in, and alignment with Calhoun’s mission and values.
- Maintaining a high level of professionalism.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Experience in designing and evaluating curriculum for Math instruction.
- Interest in working in a progressive and humanistic school with a focus on experiential and place based teaching and learning.
- Appreciation for, and commitment to, diversity and social justice in multiple forms.
- Demonstration of enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community.
- Flexibility and ability to cope with change.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Math or related field required, Master’s degree in Math or related field preferred.
- High school teaching experience, preferably in Math or a related subject.
- Interest in working in a progressive and humanistic school with a focus on experiential and place based teaching and learning.
- Appreciation for, and commitment to, diversity and social justice in multiple forms.
- Demonstration of enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community.
