Position Title: Biological Technician (GS 0401) / Ecology (GS 0408) / Wildlife Biology (GS 0486)

Internship Overview
Department of Interior’s (DOI) Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will host a minimum of 11-weeks of full-time summer internships. The internships will be an opportunity to bring new and diverse viewpoints to the BLM while working on specific projects targeted for attracting, recruiting, and filling mission critical and hard-to-fill occupations. Position Overview
Natural resource specialists study sensitive habitats, develop natural resources regulations and guidance, help protect lives, property, and resources from fires, inventory and monitor wildlife or vegetation, analyze and mitigate environmental impacts, and restore and protect threatened animals and plants. The duties performed by Department of Interior (DOI) natural resource specialists vary greatly by location, bureau, and position.

Description/Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate enjoys applying scientific knowledge in balancing the needs of plants, people and animals. He or she can communicate complex scientific information to diverse audiences, and gain the trust and cooperation of people with varied interests and agendas.
 
Natural resource specialists can be found in offices, labs and in the field in a variety of environments from cities to wilderness.
  • Preparing samples;
  • Performing data analysis;
  • Collecting specimens;
  • Participating in restoration activities, invasive species control, or fire management;
  • Gathering and organizing information

Eligibility:
§ Preferred majors: Biology, Natural Resources, Wildlife, Environmental Sciences, other related majors
§ Valid state issued driver’s license required
§ U.S. Citizenship or Green Card Holder required

Criteria for Submission:
  1. Currently enrolled as a Undergraduate, Graduate Student or Recent Graduate (on or after December 2020)
  2. Resume
  3. Transcript (official or unofficial)
  4. Minimum GPA - 2.50
