Systems Administrator
Job Title: System Administrator (Unix/Solaris)
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Systems Administrator (SA) is a member of a team that provides system administration and maintenance support for the Deep Space Operations Center (DSOC) computer systems. The SA performs system hardware and software installations and upgrades, troubleshooting and resolution of system failures, implement systems security and ensure configuration control. The SA supports the real-time operations team to ensuring continuous and efficient systems operations. The SA will work with customers to define requirements and implement solutions.
MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:
Perform systems administration functions for all DSOC computer systems
Perform Operating System installations, patches and upgrades
Perform Application Software installations, patches and upgrades
Perform troubleshooting and corrective actions to resolve system failures
Implement and maintain appropriate security measures
Maintain system configuration control
Maintain user accounts, authorizations, priorities and privileges
Monitor systems performance to ensure proper and efficient use of system resources
Monitor and maintain system logs
Coordinate systems maintenance activities
Generate systems operations performance metrics and reports
Provide technical support to real-time operations personnel
Assist with engineering testing and Mod kit deliveries
Implementing engineering change order
Provide technical support to real-time operations personnel
Support Level-1 and 2 activities (non-standard hours, weekends, and holidays)
Provide training to team members as needed. Perform any other tasks as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certifications: Two years related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
Education: B.S. Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field
Required Skills:
Strong Solaris system administration
Linux system administration
Windows system administration
Apache / Tomcat Web Server proficiency
Java, XML, HTML proficiency
LDAP, FTP Server system administration
Oracle Database familiarity
Strong interpersonal and communications skills; capable of writing reports and/or papers, making presentations to customers or professional peers, and working closely with management.
Ability to solve problems quickly and automate processes.
A solid understanding of operating systems; inter-process, devices and device drivers, file system concepts
(inode, clustering, logical partitions), can use performance analysis to tune systems.
A solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts; understands principles of routing, client/server programming.
Ability to program in administrative languages (Perl, Shell Scripts, etc.), ability to write small C or C++ programs are a plus.
Experience: 3-5 Years of system administration experience
