Research Associate, Protein Analytics

NGM is currently seeking a Research Associate/Senior Research Associate with a passion for innovation, teamwork, and performing impactful science, with a strong background in protein biochemistry. The successful candidate will join our Protein Purification and Analytics team. Working effectively within a dynamic and highly interactive Biologics Group and the larger Research Group, the successful candidate will work in teams to provide cutting edge analytics for solving protein production challenges and verifying protein quality and developability. The position will enable the candidate to perform a wide range of cutting-edge techniques and provide broad opportunities for professional growth.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Perform a spectrum of protein analytics to enable production of well-characterized, high-quality proteins.
  • Support the mass spectrometry analyses, with guidance, as needed by lead Scientists.
  • Support the biophysical characterization of protein drug candidates to assess their suitability for Development.
  • Assist in establishing new, higher through-put analyses of proteins.
  • Purify proteins, e.g., antibodies and antibody variants.
  • Dynamically contribute to multifunctional Project Teams and present research updates to various stakeholders.
 
Qualifications and Expertise:
  • B.S. or M.S. in Biological Sciences or a related discipline. Candidates will be considered for levels according to their work experience: 
  • Research Associate: 0 to 6 years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 0-4 years of experience with a Master’s degree
  • Senior Research Associate: 6+ years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 4+ years of experience with a Master’s degree
  • Knowledge of protein analytical methods such as SDS-PAGE, UV-vis spectroscopy, DLS, DSC or DSF, capillary electrophoresis (e.g., CE-SDS, cIEF), HPLC (SEC, ion-exchange, reverse phase).
  • Knowledge of high-resolution Mass Spectrometry methodology and analysis applied to proteins (e.g., antibodies) is highly desirable (e.g., Agilent LC-Q-TOF, Thermo Orbitrap).
  • Experience in purification of proteins, including antibodies, bi-specific antibodies, antibody fragments, and other antibody variants.
  • Proficiency in the use of AKTA AVANT systems for protein purification is highly desirable.
  • Detailed oriented, well organized, and have strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to positively impact company culture and demonstrate flexibility in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary, collaborative environment.
