Enforcement Investigator - R5

This position is in Region 5, Superfund & Emergency Management Division, Emergency Response Branch 2, Enforcement Support Section.

If selected, you must work at the location stated in this announcement. Salary will be based on the grade level for which you are selected.

At the entry level of this position, you will:

- Obtain, organize and analyze site records (business files, dump tickets, bill of lading, etc), information from State offices, on-line searches, state and local files and under sources in order to track entities responsible for creating the conditions at hazardous waste sites.
- Make initial determination as to liability and pass recommendations to supervisor or higher-graded investigator.
- Make contact with EPA specialist (e.g. chemists, toxicologist, etc) in order to obtain information about the actual compounds found as a site, and to make a preliminary determination as to whether there is a connection between these findings and the known chemical wastes generated or handled by parties identified as having a history at the site.
- Participate in the preparation of enforcement documents, enter enforcement information into the internal site tracking database.

You will spend less than 25% of your work time on contracts, grants/cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements.

When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses. NOTE: Career ladder promotions are not automatic, and all eligibility and qualifications requirements must be met in order to progress to the next grade level.
