Chronicle of Higher Education Scholarship for Diversity in Media

The Chronicle's scholarship program is designed to support the education of the next generation of leaders in journalism, or related fields of interest, in order to bring more diverse voices into the industry. The scholarship will award $10,000 to a qualified applicant who meets the following criteria:
  1. The applicant is an undergraduate or graduate student at an HBCU, HSI, MSI, Tribal, or other minority-serving institution.
  2. The applicant is pursuing a concentration that aligns with communications or journalism.
  3. The scholarship award does not impact any financial aid or other needs-based awards he/she may have received or can apply for in the calendar year.
  4. The applicant must be available for a virtual interview if deemed a finalist for the award.

How do I apply?
  1. Complete the application and upload a resume by clicking the "Apply" button
  2. Attach your 500-700 word essay describing your personal journey to the application 
  3. After applying, use the following link to submit (2-3) work samples of projects which can include articles, videos, audio, etc. Please link audio or video files directly to this additional form and make sure to hit “submit” at the bottom of the page. Click HERE to submit work samples.

The Scholarship recipient may accept the award amount in full with along with admission to The Chronicle's Fall Reporting Workshop program for aspiring journalists in October 2023.

The Application deadline is June 20, 2023.   

*A $3,000 stipend will be made available to the attendee for any travel and/or lodging expenses related to the above options, if chosen.
