Overnight Camp Counselor

Crossroads camps provide guidance, resources, and confidence to high-potential youth from Greater Boston and Brockton. We are looking for motivated adults who want to help young people unlock their potential to positively impact the world. If you're interested in pursuing a career in education, outdoor recreation, social work, psychology, or nonprofit management, this is the opportunity for you! Opportunities are available to complete personalized projects, curriculum development, and earn college credit. We welcome a diverse team of counselors whose skills and dedication foster lasting relationships with the youth we serve.

Counselor stipends begin at $400/week. Room and board included.

We are welcoming applications for the following positions:

  • Camp Counselor at Camp Wing - Located in Duxbury, MA. Interact with youth ages 7-13. Staff serve as cabin counselors and activity facilitators (swimming, sports, crafts, performing arts, adventure, etc). Live in a rustic cabin setting. The season includes training plus four 12-day sessions. Dates of employment: June 8 - August 14.
  • Camp Counselor at Camp Lapham - Located in Ashby, MA. Interact with youth in Grades 8 and 9. Staff serve as cabin counselors, activity facilitators with a focus on youth leadership development. Live in a rustic cabin setting. The season includes training plus two 25-day sessions. Dates of employment: June 8 - August 14.
  • Trek Counselor - Located in Ashby, MA w/ travel to Teton Valley, Idaho. Interact with youth in Grade 10. Alongside professional guides, support youth during an extended backcountry trek. Live in a wilderness camp setting. Hiking or camping experience required. The season includes training plus two 14-day sessions. Travel costs are covered. Dates of employment: June 29 - August 5.
  • College Tour/ACT Now Counselor - Located on various college campuses within three hours of Boston. Interact with youth in Grades 11 and 12. Work focuses around social justice initiatives and postsecondary support. Live in a dormitory setting. Must be 20+ years old. The season includes training plus three 7-day sessions. Dates of employment: June 22 - July 19.

General Summary of Duties:

  • Support youth as they build resilience and confidence while away from home.
  • Lead youth through active days (7am-10pm), recharging through designated hours, evenings, and days off.
  • Serve as a role model for participants who want to try new things and “fail forward” in a safe, nurturing, structured environment.
  • Contribute to a community experience that honors diverse viewpoints and celebrates individuals for who they are.
  • Serve as a role model for health, connection, involvement, and growth.

Essential Functions:

The essential functions for a counselor include the ability to support the physical/social/emotional needs of youth or teens as well as work collaboratively with peer and supervisory staff. Staff must be able to provide activity instruction to campers and facilitate a safe living/learning environment in the settings specified above. Staff will share a living space with campers and other counselors. Counselors will have limited access to personal technology during working hours. Visual and auditory abilities to identify and respond to environmental hazards are required. Staff must be able to assist campers in an emergency situation and possess the endurance required to maintain full-day supervision of young people.

Total Salary: Up to $3,600 for 9-week position. Room and Board Included.

Details:

  • Housing and meals are provided at no cost.
  • Staff are paid a stipend of $350 per week plus a completion bonus of $450.
  • Staff must be at least 18 years old and have graduated from high school (20+ for College Tour/ACT Now Counselor).
  • Experience at camp or working with youth is important.
  • Lifeguard and Ropes Course certification training available (Trek and College Tour/ACT Now Counselors excluded).
