Camp Krem Yosemite is a non-profit organization serving children, teens, and adults with a wide range of developmental disabilities. We are seeking diligent, enthusiastic, and caring Travel Camp Counselors to work and travel from Ahwahnee, CA to beautiful spaces across California!

Mission: Camping Unlimited provides out-of-home respite to caregivers of children and adults with developmental disabilities. We seek to provide relief from the daily demands of care and supervision, while fostering independence, nurturing responsibility, developing competence, and building lifelong friendships. We provide a warm and supportive atmosphere of planned permissiveness that encourages community, recreation, education, fun, and adventure.

Position Details: Seasonal, Part-time, Temporary, Volunteer Options

Reports to: Travel Camp Director

Compensation: $19/hr

Dates: October-May

Job Summary: Travel Camp Counselors are the primary caregivers for the campers and are responsible for the overall wellness, safety, and supervision of their campers. The Travel Camp Counselors will assist disabled campers with outdoor activities and help campers with daily living skills. They will also be responsible for set-up of campsites or sleeping areas, cooking meals, general clean up, and driving the camp vans. Along with being responsible for their campers, Travel Camp Counselors will also be responsible for assisting the Travel Camp Director with preparing and packing for the travel trips and unloading and organizing gear after the trips.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assure campers are properly supervised at all times;
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of campers served;
  • Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior;
  • Model socially appropriate behavior for the campers to abide by while participating in the Travel Camp Program.
  • Be aware of and implement safety guidelines;
  • Assist campers as needed with daily living skills such as toileting, feeding, personal hygiene, dressing, etc;
  • Use appropriate behavior management techniques as needed.
  • With the assistance of campers and staff, pack and load into vehicles all necessary camping and safety equipment, food, and water for the trip;
  • Drive the Camp Vehicles on trips

 

Other Job Duties:

  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning and leading those as assigned;
  • Communicate and interact effectively with fellow staff members and campers, regardless of ability, race, creed, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression;
  • Abide by all camp policies and procedures.

Physical Aspects of the Job:

  • Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers;
  • Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques;
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity;
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers;
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50-75 pounds;
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities during daylight and nighttime hours;
     

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years or older; 
  • Clean driving record;
  • Undergo full criminal background check, and reference checks;
  • Up to date COVID-19 vaccination status and willingness to undergo regular rapid antigen testing for the safety of our campers and staff.
