The Opportunity

The optical connectivity team at Marvell seeks an Optical Systems Engineer to work on system verification testing and characterization of our coherent optical devices. The ideal candidate should have WDM optical transmission link test and measurement experience including impacts of linear and nonlinear transmission impairments such as CD, PMD, XPM, and SPM and their impact on coherent optical communication systems. This role has high visibility within the team, supporting new features in our shipping products as well as providing input into design, integration, and characterization of our next generation coherent optical modules, devices, and DSP.

 

Job Responsibilities:

As an optical system engineering intern at Marvell, you will have the opportunity to work closely with our experienced engineers in test and validating of cutting-edge pluggable coherent optical modules. This internship will provide you with hands-on experience in a fast-paced and innovative environment.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Assemble optical transmission test setups in the lab to conduct system verification tests.
  • Perform automation tasks using Python to remotely control instruments and efficiently capture test data.
  • Configure test programs for specific tests and initiate and monitor test execution.
  • Create and maintain test logs and do data analysis.
  • Exhibit strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Be self-motivated with a desire to learn and contribute to innovative projects.

 

Requirements:

  • Current enrollment in a PhD program in electrical engineering, physics, or related field with a focus on optical communication systems.
  • Strong foundation in optical communication systems, including coherent transmission and detection in optical transceivers, understanding fiber transmission penalties, and proficiency in testing high-speed RF/optical components.
  • Proficiency in automation and programming languages, particularly Python and Matlab.
  • Lab experience working with optical/electrical test and measurement equipment.
