The Children’s Corps program aims to make a difference in the lives of children and families impacted by the child welfare system. We do this by placing exceptional candidates in full time employment throughout New York City (NYC). Children’s Corps partners with child welfare organizations where members work  in evidence-based prevention and family foster care programs. All positions are full-time, salaried positions with comprehensive benefits.

  • Foster Care Social Worker - (MSW)

 

Job Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Master's degree by July 1, 2024.
  • US citizen/national, permanent resident, DACA, or other valid two-year work authorization.
  • Participation in our full-time 3-week pre-service Training Academy, starting July 8, 2024.
  • Commitment to working for 2 years.

Salary: Salaries range from $51,000 - $55,000 and are determined based on language proficiency, licensure, or other job-specific requirements. 
 

Children’s Corps members are required to participate in our mandatory 3-week pre-service Training Academy in New York City. The training brings together real world experience and classroom learning, while also building a community of support. Children’s Corps provides unwavering support to its members through peer-to-peer and staff support, professional mentorship, networking opportunities and social events. 
 

All Children’s Corps placements will support families to ensure children’s safety, permanency, and well-being. No prior experience is required.
 

Job responsibilities/activities vary depending on the specific placement, but may include:

  • Manage a caseload of 8-10 families.
  • Partner with Bachelor's-level case planners and sociotherapists.
  • Provide intensive casework services for children, biological families and foster families.
  • Work with the family to achieve their permanency goals (stabilization, reunification, adoption).
  • Partner with an interdisciplinary team of professionals including therapists, education specialists, psychologists, and others to support the youth and meet their behavioral and emotional needs.
  • Coordinate and participate in family team conferences and other interdisciplinary conferences.
  • Connect families with agency and community support resources and make referrals. 
  • Maintain clear, accurate, and timely documentation on all case activity.
  • Provide reports, and testify in Family Court.
  • Conduct regular assessments for children and families safety and any ongoing risks.
  • Coordinate and supervise family visits to strengthen family relationships.
  • All positions will include other tasks as needed.

*Please note that traveling to families’ communities/homes and other agency offices is required in all weather conditions. This entails commuting via subways, buses, and by foot, and/or by car. Walking up stairs/hills is necessary to get to some locations.
