Day Camp Director

GENERAL INTRODUCTION:

Each position employed with CYO Camps as helps to extend the ministry of the Archbishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL PURPOSE: To direct and supervise all seasonal camp programing and staff at Camp Don Bosco. To implement a spiritually enriching program in the tradition of the Catholic faith.

ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES:

  1. · Help provide an atmosphere for developing good morale and well-being among the camp community and supports the camp staff in carrying out the CYO mission at camp.
  2. · Maintain a tone for spiritual growth and reflection through implementing a faith development program hitting CYO provided targets and goals that is well received by campers and staff.
  3. · Assist in conducting pre-camp and in-service staff training in cooperation with the other director staff.
  4. · Implement and supervise all camp scheduled activities in accordance with stated camp philosophy, prescribed goals and budget parameters and provide corrective feedback as needed for course adjustment.
  5. · Supervise and monitor camp program activities to ensure that camper welfare and agency resources are maintained.
  6. · Assist with office procedures, opening-and-closing-day procedures, check-in and drop-off for staff and campers.
  7. · Follow given routines, schedules, and procedures for camp operation.
  8. · Assign staff activities and other responsibilities and conduct daily check ins with the staff that you supervise.
  9. · Evaluate and supervise evaluations of all operations and program staff.
  10. · Monitor crisis management plan, including emergency procedures.
  11. · Monitor safety and all procedures as they pertain to the complete supervision of all campers and staff.
  12. · Carry out regular communication with the year round CYO Camp Services Staff regarding the status of program campers and staff.
  13. · Communicate with parents, priests, lodge leaders, and cabin leaders by being the face of CYO on the ground.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Primary:

  1. · Willingness and ability to support the mission of the Church by extending the ministry of the Archbishop.
  2. · Ability and desire to use God-given gifts and talents in service of the local Church.
  3. · Active member in the sacramental life of a parish/faith community in good standing with the Church.
  4. · A good example for youth in appearance, attitudes, as well as in moral, ethical and spiritual behavior.

Education:

  1. · High school diploma and some college. BA or BS degree in applicable field is preferred.

Experience:

  1. · Demonstrated experience working with parents or clients.
  2. · Experience in a variety of camping activities and programs.
  3. · Supervisory experience.
  4. · Demonstrated understanding of youth development and child behavior management.
  5. · Previous experience working with diverse populations.

Other Elements:

  1. · Commitment to the mission and values of CYO.
  2. · Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Comfortable with public speaking.
  3. · At least one season of camp administrative experience preferred (i.e., Assistant Camp Director, Lodge Leader)
  4. · Must be able to pass provided CPR/First Aid certification.
  5. · Ability to work evenings and/or weekends and live on site in rustic facilities while programs are in session.
  6. · Possession of a valid Washington state driver's license and a clean driving record preferred.
  7. · Must be at least 21 years of age.

`$2,500.00 - $3,500.00 Salary/month

Food, transportation, room and board included in addition to salary.
