Social Media Coordinator for Summer Literacy Camp

About Wise Readers to Leaders

Wise Readers to Leaders is a growing nonprofit organization that offers a free, six-week summer literacy and enrichment camp for Kindergarten through 8th grade students from Title I LAUSD schools that aims to remediate the academic losses experienced during the pandemic and prevent the “summer slide”, or learning loss which typically occurs over summer months. Our staff and volunteers work to create a powerful, fun, and transformative summer for scholars from high-need communities by providing innovative and exciting literacy curriculum, engaging enrichment activities and experiential learning opportunities. We emphasize literacy while instilling a love of reading and a sense of self-confidence that bolsters academic success by offering our original literacy curriculum in the morning and “camp style” enrichment activities in the afternoon.

About the Position

As Social Media coordinator you will curate engaging and creative content for multiple social media platforms, work closely with office staff, be an extra set of hands at off site field trips, and  capture pictures and videos weekly at our sites to post on stories and share on the various platforms.

The main responsibilities of the Social Media Coordinator include, but are not limited to-

  • Visit each WRTL literacy camp site at least once per week for at least 6 hours per day
  • Take at least 20 photos and 2 videos per day
  • Prepare typed captions on a Google Doc for each photo
  • Collect and curate photos from staff and volunteers
  • Meet with Executive Director once per week to review photos and create social media posts
  • Attend at least three field trips during the summer and take at least twenty photos on the field trip days
  • Post on social media during our Rock the Clock Fundraiser-
    • Create daily posts leading up to the event
    • Create hourly posts for Rock the Clock fundraiser on the day of event

Qualifications

Completed high school and possess strong organizational skills and creativity; Proficiency in Canva, all social media platforms, and photo editing; strong interpersonal, written, and verbal skills; an energetic, positive and enthusiastic demeanor. 

Recommended- 

  • Past experience with Wise Readers to Leaders
  • Some proficiency in Spanish and experience working with teens

Program Dates & Times

Our 2024 WRTL Summer Literacy Camp will run for six weeks from June 17th to July 26th, with June 19th and July 4th off as holidays. The work hours during the program will be 7:30pm-4:00pm. Additional paid training sessions are required prior to the start of camp, scheduled for June 8, 9, and 11-13, as well as additional, post-camp days from 7/29-8/1. You will be responsible for your own transportation. Many summer staff arrange carpools with each other at their sites.
