Spring Leave Replacement - 8th Grade English Teacher

JOB TITLE: 8th Grade English Teacher - Spring Leave Replacement

REPORTS TO: Head of Middle School

JOB STATUS: .75 FTE

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and teach three sections of 8th grade English.
  • Follow all established curriculum and lesson plans.
  • Participate in 4-5 Focus Days, as assigned.
  • Meet weekly with 6th/7th grade Student Support Lead or Dean of Faculty (alternate).
  • Communicate with administration and parents/guardians regarding individual students as needed.
  • Attend weekly faculty meetings.
  • Manage Canvas page and keep all grades and assignments up to date.
  • Prepare progress reports, final semester grades, and write comments.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience teaching Middle School English, desired
  • Teaching credential and/or bachelor’s degree in English or a related field
  • A dedication to experiential teaching and learning
  • A passion for working with adolescents
  • Commitment to democracy, justice, equity, inclusion, service, and environmental stewardship

BENEFITS, COMPENSATION, PROFESSIONAL GROWTH & COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Athenian provides excellent benefits and salaries are competitive and commensurate with work experience and education. The annual salary for a 1.0 FTE role ranges from $75,900 - $137,800 and will be adjusted to reflect .75 FTE. Additionally, faculty receive additional stipends for completed Masters and Doctoral degrees. Community members also enjoy meals on campus and use of athletics facilities, including a pool, gym and fitness center. 

All employees participate in school wide professional development, and have the opportunity to pursue a range of additional professional growth opportunities. These include, but are not limited to, funded participation in professional conferences and continuing education opportunities. Athenian provides needed training for CPR/AED certification.

All employees are expected to attend all-school functions relevant to their role and to participate in supporting the student experience with other school duties as requested by their direct supervisor.
