ArtistYear AmeriCorps Resident Teaching Artist - ASPEN, CO

At ArtistYear we train & place exceptional artists as Resident Teaching Artists (RTAs) to address inequities in creative learning at K-12 schools across the nation.

What is the role of a Resident Teaching Artist (RTA)?

An RTA’s role is to join a school community and expand creative learning through direct instruction, arts integration, and creating clubs and extracurriculars. RTAs have the unique opportunity to collaborate with the school faculty and community to support student engagement. Specifically RTAs who service in the Aspen Valley are placed in public schools throughout Basalt, Carbondale, and Glenwood Springs and support the AMFS AfterWorks music education programs.

What does service look like?

Once trained, RTAs collaborate with their service site to expand and deepen arts offerings via:

  • Partnering with teachers to enhance arts instruction in the general classroom setting
  • Arts Clubs
  • Pull-out instruction with small groups of students
  • Arts Integration in core academic subjects
  • School-wide arts initiatives

What is an RTA’s role and responsibilities?

As an ArtistYear RTA responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • A full-time (40 hours) service week in a Title I funded school, inclusive of:
  • Direct teaching and school common-time hours.
  • Communication, meeting, planning, and preparation hours.
  • Student performance or exhibition hours.
  • Full attendance and participation in all training and professional development requirements for school site, ArtistYear, and the AMFS.
  • Designing and teaching standards-based, aligned arts education that supports school culture and goals, as well as ArtistYear’s standards.
  • On-time submission of all required time-sheets and data collection reports.
  • Design and execute arts instruction and activities that encourage student social-emotional growth.
  • Regular communication, meetings and collaboration with school staff members and the ArtistYear leadership.
  • Complete required documentation and records for school site and ArtistYear.
  • Receive and implement regular and supportive feedback from ArtistYear leadership and/or school site supervisor on performance.
  • Support AMFS after

Where can you serve?

ArtistYear is partnering with the Aspen Music Festival and School (AMFS) to provide service in Aspen Valley, Colorado. Our members work closely with the Roaring Fork Valley School District and support the  AMFS AfterWorks music education programs..

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS

Applicants to ArtistYear must be:

  • Highly skilled in their music craft or having a comparable combination of education and experience in their field.
    • We are specifically looking to hire string players, classical guitarists, vocalists/pianists, and wind musicians to serve full time in our 2024-2025 Aspen Valley cohort.
  • U.S. citizenship, national, or legal resident.
    • Due to the hiring restrictions as an AmeriCorps program, ArtistYear may only accept applicants who are U.S. citizens, nationals, or legal residents.
  • Able to dedicate up to 12-months to a full-time national service year.
  • Able to successfully pass all necessary background checks and clearances for working with youth.

APPLICATION PROCESS

The RTA application requirements include:

  • Short Answer Questions
  • Artistic representation via video or portfolio sample
  • Two recommendations
  • Interviews (conducted via Zoom)

APPLICATION TIMELINE

We accept applications on a rolling basis. They will be reviewed in pooled groups on the following dates:

DEC 1, 2023 – 1st Pool Deadline

MAR 1, 2024 – 2nd Pool Deadline

MAY 17, 2024 – 3rd Pool Deadline

Please Note: ArtistYear highly encourages all members to be vaccinated regardless of service site location. If you are serving within a school district that implements a vaccine mandate at any point during your service year, you will be required to comply by getting vaccinated and providing proof of your vaccination. You WILL NOT be eligible to serve if you do not comply with your school district's vaccine mandate.
