Summer Internship

Humans of San Quentin www.humansofsanquentin.org is a humanitarian non-profit sharing the lives of people inside prison with the outside world. Our mission is to collect real stories shared by people incarcerated to bring awareness and build connections. The aim is to give voice to the unheard. We aspire to educate and build compassion by sharing the lives of the humans living behind bars.

HoSQ is a collaboration between Diane Kahn, a teacher inside San Quentin and Juan Haines, an incarcerated writer and the Senior Director of San Quentin News. Together they share the passion to interview people incarcerated around the world and bring their stories to the outside world.

Year-Round Volunteer Program

Humans of San Quentin is continually and eagerly recruiting volunteers aged 15+ local to Marin County and the greater Bay Area.

Our volunteer program seeks to open the minds of highly motivated individuals to the realities of incarceration in the U.S. and beyond. Inspired by the compelling stories of people inside, our volunteers report feeling a lasting motivation to continue advocating for the rights of incarcerated persons long after their time with us.

Our volunteers correspond with and reach out to our incarcerated writers, assist with office operations, draft/edit content for our website, write grants, fundraise, create newsletters, and more!
