Accounting/Finance Intern (Summer 2024 - Edgewood, MD)

As a Smiths Detection intern, you will have the opportunity to be working side-by-side with highly skilled individuals dedicated to making the world a safer place through technology innovations. Our intern assignments are designed to allow you to experience, first-hand, the type of work we do within Smiths Detection. As an intern, you can make an impact on the business as well as continue to build your analytical, technical and leadership skills.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Tax- Organize State & local schedules filings
  • Create & maintain Annual report schedule
  • Support Internal control documentation
  • Support with Internal and External Audit requests
  • Support the accurate and timely filing of Federal, State and local tax returns
  • Learn the documentation and calculation of multiple tax schedules
  • Support audit requests
  • Other duties as assigned

THE INDIVIDUAL:

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Degree-track undergraduate or graduate program, such as Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Taxation.
  • Familiarity with basic accounting principles and concepts such as debits and credits, financial statements, and basic tax regulations.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Strong analytical skills are important for analyzing financial data, identifying trends, and preparing tax returns accurately.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software suite especially spreadsheet software (such as Microsoft Excel).
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, follow instructions, and contribute to group projects is important.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older
  • You must be willing to work in an office in Edgewood, MD
  • You must be willing to take and pass a drug test as part of the selection process
  • You must be willing to submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process
