The "Multimedia Specialist Pathways Student Intern" position is designed to provide interns with challenging assignments that will broaden their perspectives on issues facing the government and prepare them for future positions throughout the government.

The selectee will work with the Chief of the Publishing & Visual Media Division, Senior Multimedia Specialists, and the Visual Information Specialist. Alongside these colleagues, the incumbent will learn the process of brainstorming, conceptualizing, and creating graphics and multimedia interpretations and designs for FHWA Program Offices. Design creations are primarily used to inform, educate, and market various FHWA programs, policies, and initiatives.

As a Multimedia Specialist Pathways Student Intern, you will:

  • Layout and design to include branding, development of brochures, logos, posters, flyers, virtual exhibits, multimedia presentations, templates, PowerPoint presentations, plaques, pull-banners, etc.
  • Attend meetings with senior staff members to be educated on customer needs and help identify appropriate mediums to execute customer projects.  
  • Perform lower-level developmental duties in the development of communication strategies in the form of visual information for a variety of organizational and division projects and program efforts.

The ideal candidate possesses basic to intermediate knowledge and skills to produce graphic design and web-based deployment technologies such as Adobe Creative Cloud software (InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator) or other motion graphics software for graphics design, publication design, and other technical multimedia items - the incumbent also uses Microsoft Office Suite and Digital Signage software.
