Math Teacher

Catlin Gabel School in Portland, Oregon seeks a committed and enthusiastic Math Teacher for the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year. This role primarily focuses on high school grades, also referred to as Upper School. This position is a part-time (0.5 FTE) teaching position.

 

Success in the position will be evaluated based on the individual’s ability to support the Upper School in achievement of their goals, which includes:

  • Teaching Upper School mathematics classes.
  • Supporting students with their comprehension of concepts.
  • Create an inclusive and culturally responsive classroom environment through regular class meetings, supportive exchanges with students, and clear expectations for classroom behavior.
  • Utilizing a variety of teaching methods to support different learning styles and have experience teaching a wide spectrum of mathematic courses
  • Coordinating and implementing appropriate student assessments and utilize assessment results to enhance student learning, including differentiated instruction
  • Integrating the use of technology to support mathematical understanding for students
  • Developing, planning, and lead or co-lead experiential learning activities with a group of students
  • Serve as student advisor

 

Salary: $25,195-$49,705 (based on 0.5 FTE)

Qualifications:

  • BA in mathematics or related field required; MA preferred.
  • At least two years demonstrated effective teaching experience (preferably in a high school setting)
  • Understanding and experience with student-centered teaching, inquiry-based learning
  • Knowledge of experiential learning through hands-on tasks, projects, and guided reflection
  • Experience in competency- or standards-based teaching and assessment a plus
  • Experience in curriculum development
  • Teaching background and demonstrated experience with adolescents
  • Advanced skills in use of internet, e-mail, and other appropriate technology applications
