Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) is the state agency that empowers Ohioans with disabilities through employment, disability determinations, and independence. It is accomplished through its Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation (BVR), Bureau of Services for the Visually Impaired (BSVI) and Division of Disability Determination (DDD). The Division of Information Technology (IT) supports OOD's mission by engaging with our partners to provide solutions that solve business needs. Our services include strategic planning, project management, business requirements gathering, development, quality assurance testing, help desk support, security, database design and implementation, systems support and operations.

   

Software Development Specialist 1 Position Overview: 

At Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD), a Software Development Specialist 1 (SDS1) supports the IT Strategy of Automation, Innovation and Modernization (AIM). We’re searching for skilled and experienced software development professionals with vision and passion to use technology to make a lasting impact in the lives of Ohioans with disabilities.

In the SDS1 role, you'll be collaborating with a team of highly skilled and experienced IT and business users in a variety of business domains to support the IT solutions that bring Automation, Innovation and Modernization (AIM) to complex and challenging business processes. OOD is using Microsoft’s .Net technology, Azure resources and C# applications to streamline business processes and improve the collection and distribution of data to support our business users through our AIM strategy.

At OOD, you’ll work with a team to use Azure DevOps to deploy solutions through automated pipelines and use modern tools to test code to create solutions that help business users serve Ohioans with disabilities.

Software Development Specialist 1 Duties:

  • Test internal .Net applications to ensure they’re in great working order, designed for accessibility, visually appealing, and user-friendly.
  • Participate actively in our maturing agile DevOps approach to development and delivery.
  • Plan and execute software tests on commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) and internally built applications to determine whether applications are ready to deploy to production.
  • Verify and reproduce bugs reported by end users, log and track bugs in third party support portal or Azure DevOps to ensure user issues are resolved.
  • Write test cases and scripts for unit, system, and regression testing.
  • Create and set-up test data for performing test scenarios.
  • Uses data manipulation tools, data query tools, and application logs to debug and troubleshoot application issues and verify test results.
  • Assist and support end users throughout the user acceptance testing process.
  • Reviews release notes and documentation from third party vendors to prepare for user acceptance testing of new COTS applications releases of.

   

A Successful Software Development Specialist 1 Has:

  • Experience working with developers and business users to create detailed test plans, test scripts and test data to verify requirements using TFS/Azure DevOps.
  • Experience executing functional, integration, system, regression, and load/performance testing manually or through automated testing tools.
  • Experience working collaboratively with team members to identify, reproduce, resolve and retest defects.
  • Experience authoring, reviewing, and refining acceptance criteria for application requirements by coordinating with business users and development team.
  • Experience writing SQL queries to analyze data from SQL databases.
  • Experience with Agile ceremonies such as Daily Standup meetings, Sprint Planning, Retrospectives, Backlog Grooming, and team demos.
  • Ability to document, share and advocate best test practices and continuous process improvements.

Qualifications

36 months combined work experience in any combination of the following: developing and/or modifying programs for computer applications, performing testing and debugging and assisting with analysis and design INCLUDING 12 months work experience in the primary technology as specified by the agency position description & job posting. 

OR

Completion of associate core program in computer science or information systems AND 18 months combined work experience in any combination of the following: developing and/or modifying programs for computer applications, performing testing and debugging and assisting with analysis and design INCLUDING 12 months work experience in the primary technology as specified by the agency position description & job posting. 

OR

Completion of undergraduate core program in computer science or information systems AND 12 months combined work experience in any combination of the following: developing and/or modifying programs for computer applications, performing testing and debugging and assisting with analysis and design INCLUDING 12 months work experience in the primary technology specified by the agency in the position description & job posting. 

OR

Equivalent of education and/or experience per Minimum Class Qualifications noted above.

The selection process consists of an online assessment and a remote structured interview. All parts of the assessment will be administered remotely at this time. Interviews and assessments are tentatively scheduled to be held the week of June 10th, 2024. All communications are sent via email.
