Project Microbiologist

Job Description

  • Designs basic to medium complexity research studies, prepares quotes, study protocols, preliminary results, and final reports for studies under the oversight of a Research Microbiologist or higher position
  • Provides administrative and scientific support for research studies, including pre-study tasks (i.e., quote, protocol, method development), coordination with laboratory team regarding supplies and shipments to/from clients, and interaction with clients and laboratory personnel
  • Provides support to the Advanced Food Microbiology laboratory team at the benchtop as needed
  • Reviews and approves data generated by the Advanced Food Microbiology laboratory
  • Independently communicates with clients about study results, including interpretation
  • Discusses technical problems or scope changes with the Research Microbiologist or higher position and suggests solutions and actions to resolve problems.
  • Ensures that projects are conducted to meet Division quality standards
  • Maintains project, laboratory, and experimental records
  • Maintains a safe and clean laboratory environment
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement and assists in their resolution
  • Assists or co-hosts client visits and writes up debriefing notes
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Microbiology, Food Science, or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Microbiology
  • Experience in data interpretation and report writing.
  • Laboratory experience in microbiology laboratory environment.
  • Experience in method development and problem-solving.
  • 15-25% Travel Requirement (International & Domestic)
  • May work with potentially hazardous substances
  • Work requires the use of PPE (personal protective equipment)
  • Work requires some standing and sitting for long periods of time
  • Work may require lifting weights of up to 40 lbs.
  • Overtime, weekend, and holiday work as required
  • May include second shift wok
  • Will be exposed to potential food allergens
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship

Additional Information

Position is Full-Time, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., with additional hours, as needed.  Candidates currently living in a commutable distance to Fresno, CA are encouraged to apply.
