Duty Location: Lakewood, Colorado

Salary: GS-09 - $66,670 to $86,670

Duties

The purpose of the position is to facilitate completion of various technical writing and editing assignments. Duties include but are not limited to:

- Preparation and formulation of technical, scientific, engineering reports and web content. Prepares and optimizes documents in PDF format for digital distribution.
- Works closely with clients, team leaders, and senior Technical Writer/Editors. Participates in team activities by assisting senior level Technical Writer/Editors with document scheduling and plan development.
- Uses technical writing and editing knowledge and expertise to advise co-workers, clients, and others on various publication requirements. Assists with the assembly of digital documents. Ensures logical organization and presentation of information. Informs clients and project team members of established stylistic requirements. Stays abreast of Visual Identity and Section 508 compliance requirements and best practices and acts as a technical resource on these matters to others in the Technical Service Center.
- Functions as a project team member of interdisciplinary teams. Attends project team meetings and participates in project management and team building, all of which may involve skillful and thoughtful communication.
- In coordination with the client or project team lead, suggests rewriting of paragraphs or reorganizing an entire section of text. May assist with plain language translation from technical or scientific verbiage. Copy-edits, proofreads, and formats large, technical documents. Performs edits of text of technical manuals and reports such as comprehensive reviews and transmittal memorandums, appendices, congressional documents, and other documents.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualification Requirements: In order to be rated as qualified for this position, the HR Office must be able to determine that you meet the education and/or specialized experience requirement - this information must be clearly supported in the resume.

GS-09 grade level:

Specialized Experience:
To qualify at the GS-09 level, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-07 level in federal service having demonstrated experience that requires substantial subject-matter or technical knowledge in the field of technical writing and editing of scientific and/or engineering technical reports and documents, analyses, standards, manuals, etc. Demonstrated ability working closely with clients and interdisciplinary teams in the fields of engineering or science. Experience with styling, formatting and conversion between Microsoft Word and Adobe software, adherence to accessibility compliance (e.g., Section 508), plain language and/or visual identity when presenting technical information.

Education:
You could otherwise qualify on the basis of Education having a master's or equivalent graduate degree.
OR
Two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree which included a total of 15 semester hours in an appropriate scientific, technical or social science field(s) related to this position, and at least one course above the introductory level in the field(s) covered by this position.
OR
LL.B. OR J.D.
