Job Description and Duties

Are you interested in joining a dynamic team to help shape the future of CDFW Lands? Join the California Department of Fish and Wildlife's (CDFW) Land Management Planning and Resource Assessment Unit (LMPRA) in the Wildlife Branch (Headquarters), based out of West Sacramento! The LMPRA is seeking motivated staff with general ecology/biology and/or land management planning knowledge and strong organizational and communication skills to join the team. The LMPRA provides leadership and facilitation to the Regional land management staff throughout the Land Management Planning process. This includes tasks such as data gap analysis, resource inventory data collection, development of management goals and strategies, and public outreach as well as document writing, formatting, and review.

Under the supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisor), the Environmental Services Intern will assist with the development and completion of Land Management Plans. Tasks include organizing and summarizing background information from reports, geodatabases, and field notes. May also participate in field surveys. Assist in preparation and implementation of public meetings, including preparing meeting notices, taking notes, and helping with setup and cleanup.

The Environmental Services Intern classification is a non-testing classification.

Working Conditions

This position primarily requires working in an office environment which involves using a computer several hours a day and attending virtual or in person meetings. This may necessitate sitting most of the time and walking or standing for brief periods. Must possess a valid Driver's License, be able to safely and legally operate a motor vehicle, and be able to travel using a State vehicle. Travel may include short day-long trips as well as long-distance overnight travel. Infrequent evening or weekend work may be required.
