Equipment Support Section

The Mobile Source Laboratory Division (MSLD) is seeking a Staff Air Pollution Specialist (SAPS) to lead the Equipment Support Section (ESS). The mission of the ESS is to provide expertise in the maintenance, failure diagnosis and resolution of problems with dynamometers, laboratory testing, sampling, measurement and calibration equipment and their interaction with laboratory infrastructure, and test cell automation systems. Under the general direction of the Air Resources Supervisor I, the SAPS would serve as the lead staff in the section and be responsible for coordinating and performing the work of the Section, including the initial evaluation of staff capabilities in the operation of testing, sampling, measurement and calibration equipment, and the identification of training needs for staff to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to bridge the knowledge gap between test cell, QA/QC, and AVL on-site support staff to quickly resolve issues preventing the utilization of test cells per CFR requirements. The SAPS would be leading the efforts to plan, develop, and implement the trainings needed for sections within MSLD.

Working Conditions

 

The positions at the CARB may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of hybrid telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location at their own expense, as indicated on their duty statement.

  • Additional working condition(s): Duties will be conducted within a cutting-edge, climate-controlled laboratory environment, and occasionally in the field or on travel status (less than 20% of the time).
