Job Description and Duties

Do you enjoy land restoration and working on projects to help improve wildlife habitat and fisheries management? Are you looking to make a difference in California by assisting in restoring state land for public enjoyment? We are seeking someone that enjoys hands on outdoor work to join our team as a Fish and Wildlfie Seasonal Aid. Gain experience with Land Management while improving California lands.

Imperial Wildlife Area consists of 3 different units: Wister Unit (Type A), Finney-Ramer Unit (TypeC), and Hazard Unit (Type A). This position will assist with maintenance of the Wister Sport Fish Pond, vegetation/fuels reduction, wildlife habitat improvement projects, facilities maintenance including repairing wildlife area boundary fences, replacing boundary signs, stocking and cleaning public use self-registration booths and restrooms, collecting trash, painting buildings, washing vehicles and tractors as needed and assisting other staff with minor repairs and servicing of farming equipment. Assist with ground preparation, planting, and irrigating of various wildlife food crops; repair and conduct routine maintenance on wheel tractors, farming implements such as discs and flail mowers, light trucks, assist in installing/removing water control structures. work irregular hours in a hunter check station. Issue entry permits, check for valid hunting licenses and stamps, answer hunter questions, keep maps, regulation books and permits in stock. Will be responsible for accurately identifying and recording waterfowl and recreational user numbers and keeping work areas and public use facilities clean. Under the supervision of a qualified applicator; properly apply herbicides to control invasive plants and reduce vegetative fuels; operate, service, and maintain equipment, develop accurate pesticide application records and other related documents.


The Fish and Wildlife Seasonal Aid classification is a non-testing classification.

Working Conditions

Ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions, physical labor, odd hours, weekends, and holidays. Hunter Check Station duties include the handling of dead game. Must possess and maintain a valid class C Driver’s License.
