Inspections Specialist Sr

Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for inspecting motor vehicle dealer locations and auditing records to verify conformance with statutory mandates for the collection of proper fees and taxes. Responsibilities also include inspecting motor vehicles for identification of essential parts to deter theft and training Exam & Inspection Specialists in the motor vehicle and dealer inspection process. May act as a resource for law enforcement in dealer and motor vehicle fraud investigations.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • One Year of experience conducting motor vehicle and dealer inspections OR three years of experience processing motor vehicle title transactions. 

OR:

  • 2 years of experience as an auto body repair technician, OR certification as an auto body repair technician from a trade or vocational school.

AND:

  • A thorough working knowledge of MN statutes surrounding salvaged motor vehicles, reconstructed motor vehicles, and the requirements for passing or failing a vehicle inspection.
  • A thorough working knowledge of Minnesota statutes surrounding dealer licensing and the requirements for opening and maintaining a motor vehicle dealership.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • English reading, writing and speaking, sufficient for presenting clear and concise information.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possess a thorough knowledge of Minnesota dealer licensing statutes including but not limited to, Chapters168,168A, and 297B, 325F and related rules, policies and procedures.
  • Have a good understanding of motor vehicle title and registration laws, rules and business practices sufficient to analyze problems and identify which records are needed for criminal and tax fraud investigations.

Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally moving and transporting 50 pound items and frequently moving and transporting objects such as heavy tools and heavy file boxes. This job may require positioning self to move to a significant degree across rough terrain or may involve maintaining a stationary position for extended periods.
