Research and Training Director

This position exists to direct the work of the Research Team and support the work of the other units and Offices within the Office of Justice Programs. This position directs the federally supported Statistical Analysis Center (SAC) whose mission it is to collect and analyze data relating to crime and the juvenile and criminal justice systems; provide accurate information and analysis on emerging and critical issues and support informed policy decisions.  This position will also support the work of the OJP units and offices as it relates to data collection, analysis, reporting, measuring, evaluating, training, technical assistance, and best practices

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of professional level experience in research, behavioral science, social services, or related field. A bachelor's degree from an accredited school may substitute for one year of experience. 

Professional experience must include the following:

  • Experience designing and directing research projects in the criminal and juvenile justice and crime victim areas.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience; ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of research staff.
  • Demonstrated administrative skills sufficient for facilitating, planning, and implementation of office strategic priorities and goals. 
  • Planning and presentations skills sufficient to propose legislative changes based on research. 
  • Demonstrated experience working in research and data analysis and the ability to become a subject matter expert to respond to escalated, complex information and research inquiries from criminal and juvenile justice system professionals, crime victim agency personnel, legislature, media and citizens.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of state systems and the legislative process
  • Experience developing and managing budgets
  • Experience creating, implementing and evaluating a complex and dynamic training program
  • Experience developing and directing of policy briefs based on statistical data collected and analyzed by the unit.

Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally moving and transporting such articles as file folders and small tools. May need to maintain a stationary position for long periods of time while carrying out job duties.
