Survey Technician

Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. Promotion to the full performance level is neither guaranteed nor implied and will be based solely on your ability to satisfactorily perform the work of the position, existing work at the higher grade level, and recommendation by the position's supervisor.

Duties at each grade level:

At the GS-05 grade level, the incumbent is responsible for:

  • Stocks and ensures survey supplies and equipment are loaded for the days work.
  • Assists in survey operations, clearing line of sight, establishing traverse points, providing distance and angular measurement, and instrument operation.
  • Researches access to project location.

At the GS-06 grade level, the incumbent is responsible for:

  • Serves as principle assistant, trains and direct activities of other technicians or laborers in daily activities.
  • Assists in reduction of survey measurement data using computer software.
  • Assists with research of prior survey records.

At the GS-07 grade level, the incumbent is responsible for:

  • Assists in preparing of field notes and draft plats for Cadastral surveys assigned to land surveyors
  • Leads daily performance of land survey crew operations.
  • Completes reduction of survey measurement data using computer software.

This is a Career-Seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures. Selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions.
