The reporting location for this position is Candlestick Point State Recreation Area Offices at 1150 Carroll Ave., San Francisco, CA.  This position will work under the direction of Staff Park and Recreation Specialist.  

 

The State Park Interpreter I conducts interpretive programs and community engagement within and around Candlestick Point State Recreation Area.  The Community Engagement Interpreter will work with established community-based organizations and non-profit groups to conduct outreach and to engage local community members in the creation of culturally relevant, interpretive, and environmental programming that integrates both assets and experiences of the audience.  Assists the Bay Area District, Northern Service Center, and headquarters staff on special interpretive and site development projects.  This position will work some nights and weekends.

 

This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

 

This position is designated as not telework eligible.

 

Duties

  • Develop and lead interactive, culturally relevant, ecologically sound interpretive programming specific to Candlestick Point SRA for park visitors, community groups, libraries, and schools, such as fishing, birding, mindfulness, and Bayview community activism history programs.
  • Develop and lead kayaking programs., and develop and lead interpretive programming in the community garden for the public.
  • Actively participate in collaborating with other Interpretive staff, and coordinate the logistics of interpretive activities provided by employees and volunteers.
  • Create interpretive signage to improve the visitor experience. Serve as lead to park aides and park interpretive specialists as assigned. 
  • Help coordinate and staff large community events as appropriate.

 

Qualifications:

  •  One year of experience in research and development of historical or natural resource interpretive programs. 
  • Equivalent to graduation from college with major work in interpretation, social sciences, natural sciences, communications, or closely related fields. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for up to two years of the required education on a year- for-year basis).
