The advertised position is in the Division of Food and Drug Safety (DFDS). The mission of DFDS is to protect and improve the health of all Californians by assuring the safety of foods, drugs, and medical devices through investigation, inspection, and control of the sources of these products. DFDS is comprised of the Office of Youth Tobacco Enforcement and the Food and Drug Branch.

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by promoting health and wellness and improving state health outcomes by advancing protective measures and reducing risk.

Under the supervision of the Assistant Division Chief (Staff Services Manager III) of the Division of Food and Drug Safety (DFDS), the Staff Services Analyst (SSA) will perform work of average difficulty in a wide variety of administrative and analytical assignments for DFDS and its programs – Food and Drug Branch (FDB) and Office of Youth Tobacco Enforcement (OYTE). Under supervision, the SSA will be responsible for the coordination and monitoring of correspondence, drills, and assignments for DFDS and its programs. The SSA will act as the Personnel Liaison for the DFDS and will be the department’s main point of contact to assist with personnel related duties. The incumbent will assist with administrative support for DFDS on a variety of sensitive and confidential personnel assignments involving FDB and OYTE. The SSA will also assist in providing direct support to management on a broad spectrum of administrative assignments.

The SSA classification is distinguished from the Associate Governmental Program Analyst classification by the scope of responsibility, complexity of work performed, independence of action, decision-making, and level of supervision received. This classification consists of three alternate ranges and as the SSA advances within the classification ranges, their responsibilities are expected to show broader knowledge of the work environment, and organizational and/or departmental requirements while the scope of work increases.
