ESI Supervisor (Special Education)
2024-25 School Year

Job Summary:
Responsible for planning and developing programs and services for secondary students in Special Education programs in three school districts by interpreting and implementing Federal, state and County laws and regulations.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Program Supervision

     A.   Provide program supervision for the assigned building/programs in the KRESA Southern Service Area 
     B.  Facilitate the integration of ECSE programs with local elementary buildings:

  • provide technical assistance to programs, building staff, and administrators

     C.  Supervise assigned Itinerant Staff in the KRESA Southern Service Area:

  • ensure appropriate service delivery and integration of therapy
  • oversee diagnostics
  • monitor caseloads and workloads

     D.  Consult with ESI/special education teachers and itinerant staff in the KRESA Southern Service Area

  • provide administrative support
  • identify program and curriculum needs
  • assist in short- and long-term planning
  • coordinate provision of paraprofessional services

     E.  Assist building principals to supervise all local resource and categorical programs:

  • provide observational information of program
  • address target concerns by principals for follow-up
  • collect requested evaluative information
  • propose necessary service delivery and staffing changes

     F.  Oversee material acquisition to support students with IEPs in the districts

 

  1. STUDENT SERVICES

     A.            Implement LEA continuous improvement monitoring system

  • Monitor IEP’s for compliance
  • Track IEP implementation by all providers
  • Coordinate CIMS process with in the KRESA Southern Service area

      B.            Maintain current knowledge of special education rules
      C.            Serve as administrative/local district representative for IEP meetings as needed
 
III.  STAFF EVALUATION/PERSONNEL

  1. Work with District and School Administrators to identify staffing needs
  2. Coordinate the personnel selection process
  • teachers and other professional staff
  • paraprofessional staff
  • others
  1. Evaluate itinerant staff
  2. Provide observational information to principals within the local districts

 
IV.  CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT/PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
       A.  Liaison between general education and special education

  • develop innovative programs based on research and best practice
  • address needs of students and teachers within the general education setting
  • encourage joint professional development opportunities
  1. Coordinate and support inclusion efforts for all students
  2. Develop in-services for staff, align to building/district plans
  3. Coordinate staff meetings with ESI Team Leaders
  4. Coordinate staff meetings for assigned Itinerant Staff

 
V.            PARENT/FAMILY
      A.  Provide advocacy for parents/families to achieve maximum communication between school/home
      B.  Assist IEP teams to develop effective relationships and decision-making practices
 
VI.  COMMUNICATION

  1. Develop and improve public relations of special education and the SSA districts
  2. Participate in school improvement to ensure desired outcomes for students with IEPs
  3. Maintain ongoing communication with Director of ESI and other administrators
  4. Maintain active involvement in professional organizations at the local, state, and national level
  5. Consult with local district Transportation Directors regarding transportation needs.

 
V.  OTHER DUTIES

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Regular and consistent attendance.
  • Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Portage Public Schools Employee Handbook.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certification with Special Ed endorsement or other Special Ed certification in another area licensed by the State of Michigan.
  • Valid Michigan Administrator Certification with Central Office endorsement or a valid permit with Central Office endorsement.
  • Master’s Degree or higher
  • Full or temporary approval as a Special Education Supervisor.
  • Three years of successful experience working in Special Education.
  • Prefer experience in special education administration.
  • Prefer experience at both elementary and secondary levels.
  • Prefer experience with transition planning and activities for students with IEPs at the high school level.
  • Proficient computer and document skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Prior experience with professional social media accounts best practices preferred.
