Health care facilities in California are licensed, regulated, inspected, and/or certified by a number of public and private agencies at the state and federal levels, including the CDPH Center for Health Care Quality (CHCQ) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). CHCQ is responsible for ensuring health care facilities comply with state laws and regulations. In addition, CHCQ cooperates with CMS to ensure that facilities accepting Medicare and Medi-Cal (in California, Medicaid is referred to as Medi-Cal) payments meet federal requirements. CHCQ also oversees the certification of nurse assistants, home health aides, hemodialysis technicians, and the licensing of nursing home administrators.

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by directly supervising the support staff and handling assignments of a confidential nature. The Supervising Program Technician II (SPT II) handles the more difficult and complex technical problems which arise from health facilities and the general public. The incumbent acts as the district office’s Attendance Coordinator performing functions such as collecting benefits forms and reporting dock to the Human Resources Division (HRD). This position may require up to 10% travel for training and state car maintenance.

  • Excellent computer application skills, e.g., MS Word, MS Teams, Outlook, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, etc.
  • Confidentiality and discretion are required due to the nature and sensitivity of the documents handled.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.
  • Punctuality is essential to the position. Regular attendance is required.
  • Ability to perform quality control steps to ensure processing procedures have been met to avoid data errors.
  • Experience in determining the completeness and accuracy of work products.
  • Willingness to familiarize oneself with health facilities within the district office’s jurisdiction.
  • Use good judgment in decision-making, manage time and resources effectively and maintain organization.
  •  Proven ability to work independently and cooperatively with others.
