Accounts Receivable Specialist

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is dedicated to advancing the health and well-being of California's diverse people and communities. The Financial Management Division (FMD), within CDPH Administration, is responsible for the preparation, analysis and management of the Department’s budget, maintenance of accounting records and financial data, and acts as the liaison with the Department of Finance (DOF), Legislative Analyst’s Office, Legislative Budget staff, and the federal government on budget and fiscal matters affecting the Department.

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by serving as the Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) Specialist performing professional accounting duties that require knowledge of financial recordkeeping, generally accepted accounting principles, governmental accounting principles, and Federal, State, and CDPH regulations, manuals, and procedures. The SAO (Specialist) independently monitors and manages the average difficulty in the establishment and maintenance of accounts and financial records. This include maintaining the high volume of return checks from the department’s bank, processing and collecting of dishonored checks for the Department, certifying and approving the receipt journal entries in Financial Information System of California (FI$CAL). The S. SAO (Spec) exercises moderate control in the administration of established policies and procedures and acts as liaison to control agencies and Department staff and conducts research to answer correspondence or to provide information requested by management, control agencies, Department staff, department’s bank, and public customers.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to track and monitor information/reports
  • Work under pressure to meet deadlines and easily adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience resolving complex problems or issues.
  • Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Visio, and Outlook skills.
