Alternative Energy Systems Consulting (AESC) is a small (70 employee) energy engineering consulting firm that drives solutions towards a clean energy future and offers a collaborative and professional work environment. We are passionate about what we do and are looking for talented people who believe they can effect change and better our society and environment, one kilowatt-hour at a time. We are looking for four to six interns, ideally in the Carlsbad and Pasadena, CA areas, to work part-time or full-time (20-40 hrs per week) providing support for a large utility’s renewable energy program.

Since 2001, AESC has completed thousands of self-generation incentive program (SGIP) application reviews and equipment verification field inspections in all the California investor-owned utilities service territories. AESC engineers inspect combined heat and power, fuel cell, electric and thermal energy storage, wind turbine, pressure reduction turbine and waste heat to power systems ranging in capacity from a few kilowatts to multiple megawatts. Selected interns will expand their knowledge of self-generation technologies as well as develop an in-depth understanding of the utility incentive process.

Primary Responsibilities

Review technical and administrative documents filed with the Self Generation Incentive Programs.

These will include:

  • Project applications, equipment spec sheets, utility load documents, engineering calculations, etc.
  • Assess application documents using a checklist.
  • Write-up application deficiencies, and document revisions needed to complete the application in a review form.
  • Email review form for internal QC and final email of completed review form to utility.

Qualifications

  • Must be working towards obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Strong attention to detail, requires minimal supervision, excellent communication skills.
  • Possess good interpersonal skills with the ability to interact positively with both coworkers and customers.
  • Compliance with all safety policies, practices and procedures.
  • Proficient PC skills including Microsoft Office suite.
