Program Technician Biobank

The Genetic Disease Screening Program (GDSP) of the California Department of Public Health works to protect and improve the health of all Californians. We run the largest screening program in the world and set the standard in delivering high-quality, cost-effective genetic services to all Californians. The mission of GDSP is “to serve the people of California by reducing the emotional and financial burden of disability and death caused by genetic and congenital disorders.”

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by receiving on-the-job instruction to perform clerical, technical duties in support of the California Biobank Program. The incumbent will become familiar with California Biobank Program policies and procedures, appropriate laws, rules and regulations to ensure the quality and integrity of the program operations.

The candidate works under the close supervision of the Research Scientist Supervisor (RSS) I (Epidemiology/Biostatistics), Chief of the Prenatal Outcomes & Evaluation Unit, and assists with Biobank Program research and projects managed by the California Biobank Program (CBP) Coordinator, a Staff Services Manager (SSM) I (Specialist). The incumbent will assist in the storing, retrieval, and transfer of biospecimens in an organized fashion using established protocols to ensure that the biospecimens can be readily located and retrieved for special studies.
